SUPERNOVA!

Backstory

Born of a drunken karaoke night on Ford’s birthday courtesy of Bill, Nova’s practically been destined for strangeness since birth. Ford and Bill must have been REALLY out of it that night, because they came out the other end with a little baby child spawning in the human realm at a decidedly NOT very newborn age. Is she human? Is she a demon? Yes to both, though she hasn’t practiced with her powers for long enough to be causing chaos and molding the world to her ideal image like Bill… not that she really wants to, of course.

When she first appeared in the shack, Ford was left to quickly adapt to caring for a child while simultaneously working on his science-y, big brain stuff. Fiddleford, when he came along, also got to be on babysitting duty (and was kind of better at it than Ford… sorry, dude! Fiddleford actually got practice!) Gee, Nova, how come they let you have three dads? Well, another oc of mine, Harley, happened to be a good college friend of Fidds and Ford and ALSO got to be another pseudo-father figure to join the gang. That makes four!

Things were all well and good for the most part until POST-PORTAL INCIDENT, where everything began to fall apart. Four dads went down to one as Bill whisked her off into the nightmare realm, another ploy of his to use Nova’s original purpose as a “baby trap” to just hurt Ford further (as if he wasn’t being tortured enough. Hey, you thought the PHYSICAL TORTURE was bad? Get ready for, “I’m taking the kid and you’re going to think she’s dead for about thirty years!”

The funny part about all of this is that Nova was barely even AWARE of all of this. Bill popped into her dreams one night like, “hey kid, we’re taking a little vacation to the nightmare! Don’t ask too many questions!” and then he played nice and brushed her off whenever she got too curious. “When are we seeing Pa again???” “Don’t worry, sweetheart, daddy’s working on it!!!”

Anyways, due to being very completely out of the loop and kept innocent as a child, she gets to have horrible discoveries later on! Wahoo! Of course, that only comes after the thirty years of slowed-down eternal nap time in the time dilation dimension. Because, you know, Bill realised he couldn't be bothered to keep a child around in the Nightmare Realm so he just… left her life the illusion dreamworld of a couple years passing. At some point, she managed to snap out of the dream. She panicked and accidentally used her powers to teleport to the first place she could think of: home. Only this time, home wasn’t REALLY home, and it turned out her Pa's brother lives here now and is pretending to BE him, and OH GOD THIRTY YEARS PASSED WHILE I WAS GONE?!?!

And thus begins Nova's adventures in the 21st century! She gets about a couple months to acclimate before the REAL canon events of the show take place, where she gets wrapped up in Dipper and Mabel's adventures, and well as having some… er, reunions…

Personality

Spunky, energetic, mischievous, curious, and LOUD. She has Bill’s penchant for trouble and Ford’s need to seek out knowledge. However, the loudness and forced humour seems to be something that only showed up after she found her way back to Earth and began working at the Mystery Shack. Had she grown up under more normal circumstances and had Ford parent her the whole way through, perhaps she may have been more of the stereotypical, scholarly type…? Anyways, overall she’s like a shooting star that sweeps in for a short moment to grace you all with the light of the celestial before leaving again.

On the flipside, she can also be flippant, blunt, and moody. When things get too Real™ a switch flips and she tries to play things off like she doesn’t care. Her goofy smile drops for an unimpressed glare and she goes off to run away somewhere else, avoiding problems until they bubble up and pop. She’d rather avoid what’s right in front of her than deal with all the hard work of emotional vulnerability and asking others for help, because that is NONSENSE and like WHATTT no no she can do this herself, you are all being ridiculous!! In that sense, she can come off as immature…
